David Arquette escapes car crash with minor injuries

It’s been a rollercoaster few months for David Arquette who has struggled through a divorce,  been shamed by his sex revelations and had a stint in rehab to deal with his depression and related alcohol issues. David Arquette opens up about battle with drugs and alcohol on Oprah

Most of us have our first dabble with booze when we hit our teens. Not David Arquette. In his first televised post-rehab interview, the Scream actor spoke to Oprah Winfrey about his early experiences with drink and drugs.

Arquette, 39, was booked into the Betty Ford Center in January this year for emotional and alcohol issues after his estranged wife Courtney Cox and his his sister staged an intervention. “I came back from Miami and I had taken a nap and I woke up and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed. I was like, “What are you two doing here together?”

‘”Courteney’s like, ‘Do you mind coming out to the living room for a minute?'” I said, “Sure, let me get dressed.” I put on this white outfit and came out. My best friend was there, my business partner and some guy I don’t know, and I go, ‘What up, turkeys? I guess this is my intervention.”‘

Rewind about thirty-five years and Arquette is a little boy, four years old. This, said the actor, is when he remembers having his first drink of beer. “I was down in the basement with my dad and beer was there and I just grabbed it and drank it. And I remember that. It’s one of my earliest memories.

“I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12,” Arquette continued. “I stole pot from my father when I was eight years old.”

During the interview, Arquette also revealed that he would like to get back together with Courtney, who had been [adsense”incredibly supportive” throughout his ordeal. “She’s my best friend, and I love her with all my heart,” he said.

David Arquette enters rehab for help with depression and alcohol

According to news reports on Sunday night, actor and political activist, David Arquette, has checked into a rehab center to help deal with depression and related alcohol issues.

Currently estranged from his wife and screen co-star Courteney Cox, Arquette is no stranger to emotional difficulties and has in the past been under scrutiny for drug and alcohol problems, not to mention a public feud with Cox last year.

Former “Friends” star Courteney Cox, 46, and Arquette, 39, have been on a marital hiatus after their marriage exploded into the limelight midway through 2010. Cox has publicly stated that the couple have no intention of divorcing and although they still love each other deeply, they have not found a way to reconcile their differences yet.

The couple have been together for 11 years and have a daughter together.

Since the separation both have been romantically linked with other people, and Arquette has been particularly candid about his marital problems which have led to his subsequent sexual and drinking issues.

Courteney Cox has spoken of her support and admiration for her husband in trying to improve his life.

“I really admire David and his choice to take charge and better his life,” Cox is quoted as saying. “I love and support him.”

The couple met back in 1996 while on the set of the first horror / slasher flick, Scream, and in 1999 they were married.

[adsense]Their careers seem to have moved in different directions with Cox enjoying ten years as neurotic, control freak, careerist Monica in Friends, while in contrast, David Arquette’s big screen career has seemingly stumbled since the third instalment of the Scream series.

He enjoyed some notoriety and critical acclaim after his role in the 2001 holocaust drama, The Grey Zone, but his work outside of the film industry has been more positive including a campaign to kick Texas oil barons out of LA, as well as ventures into fighting poverty and helping the homeless.

Although still separated in real life, the couple will be reunited on screen in April when the imaginatively titled Scream 4 hits the theaters.

David Arquette fights for Calif climate law

Straight from his separation with Courtney Cox, quirky actor David Arquette has lent his celebrity weight to the campaign against a November ballot that would suspend California’s greenhouse gas emissions law.

The law, put in place in 2006, is there to encourage a statewide reduction in carbon emissions, bringing them back to the same levels as 1990 over the next decade.

In a one minute video called, “Don’t mess with California” Arquette is portrayed as the state of California, and dressed in an American-flag print kung-fu suit he proceeds to fend off the threat of thugs who represent Texan oil interests.

He visited Sacramento on Tuesday morning to promote the video and raise awareness of the campaign opposing Proposition 23.  Jared Ficker, head of the Green Technology Leadership Group said, “The spots will run on YouTube and other websites and are aimed at young voters who might not be won over by traditional campaign advertising.”

Ficker’s company are the brains behind the campaign and their action committee is also responsible for steering companies towards greener methods of energy use and production.

Oil companies have thrown a lot of money into supporting Proposition 23 which would see the 2006 law suspended and a potentially dangerous increase in greenhouse gas emissions from California.

Opponents of the law, known as AB 32 and set to be implemented in 2012, say it will cause unemployment and hurt smaller companies, however, Cleantech is a long term project which has projected the creation of 500,000 jobs in the next ten years – contradicting the spin from the oil companies.

Arquette is synonymous with the big screen but this is his first active foray into politics.  On the subject of his new mini-movie the 39 year old said, “It seemed like a great way to get the message across in a very intriguing way that young voters could tune into, start talking about, send to their friends, it’s all about getting people to the polls to vote for the future.”

He is not using the campaign as a distraction from his marriage troubles, “When I was told to come up here, that was a thought of mine,” he said, “but my belief is that the most important aspect of celebrity is you can raise awareness, lend your name and support to certain things and get people talking.  And that’s why I’m here.”

Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman split up

Following the news that Courtney Cox and David Arquette have separated it now appears that Christina Aguilera and husband of almost five years Jordan Bratman have broken up.

Word is, according to a source at UsMagazine.com, the couple have been apart for a few months and are seeing how it goes.  They claim that they are still very much in love but the relationship shifted more towards friendship than a romantic involvement.

Questions remain over what will happen to their two-year-old son Max if the couple decide to divorce and as is often the case, it is the children who suffer most.

The celebrity circle seems t be having a spate of break ups at the moment, as previously mentioned Courtney Cox and David Arquette have split over Cox growing tired of “mothering” Arquette.  He is reportedly seeking therapy to help him be a better husband.

Last week Laura Dern and Ben Harper called time on their marriage after the Grammy-winning singer claimed divorce papers had been filed back in January this year.  Harper is denying Dern spousal support and is expecting legal custody of their two children.

Let us know your thoughts.  Why do you think we’re seeing so many break-ups at the moment?

Courteney Cox and David Arquette announce split

Friends star Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced that they are  splitting up after 11 years of marriage. The actors have been separated for several months, reports TMZ, but they are “still friends”.

David announced on the Howard Stern Show today that he slept with 28-year-old bartender Jasmine Waltz, insisting however that he had not been unfaithful to Courteney, who he describes as “an amazing woman”. Part of the terms of their separation he said, was that they were both allowed to see other people.

Cox and Arquette, who met while filming Scream in 1996, have a six-year-old daughter called Coco.

They issued a joint statement, saying: “The reason for this separation is to better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage.

“We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter and we still love each other deeply.

“As we go though this process we are determined to use kindness and understanding to get through this together.

“We are comfortable with the boundaries we have established for each other during this separation and we hope that our friends, family, fans and the media also show us respect, dignity, understanding and love at this time as well.”
