Type 2 diabetes doubles the risk of cancer in women

david

A recently conducted study has found that diabetic women are at increased risk of developing cancer. The study has been conducted by the researchers at the Tel Aviv University. According to www.dailymail.co.uk, type 2 diabetes, which is characterized by the body being unable to respond to natural insulin, can lead to cancer tumors. The study was carried out on about 16,000 diabetes patients for a period of 8 years. The research began in the year 2000. These patients were completely free from any cancer symptoms in the beginning.

As per www.sciencedaily.com, the findings of the study revealed that by the end of the year 2008 it was found that diabetic women were at considerably higher risk of cancer especially colon cancer and ovarian cancer. Speaking about the study Dr. Gabriel Chodick said that: “The interaction of diabetes and female hormones appears to exaggerate the risk, and make certain organs like the uterus and ovaries more receptive to certain kinds of cancer.”

The study was published in the medical journal called Cancer Causes & Control. However, the findings revealed that type 2 diabetes was found to have left a rather positive effect on men. Dr. Gabriel Chodick also added that as far as possible women should try and avoid the development of type 2 diabetes by the help of low-carbohydrate and high-fiber diet and regular workout.
