Regular intake of brown rice may help reduce diabetes risk


A recent health study has revealed that consumption of white rice can be linked to development of Type 2 diabetes. According to, people who are diabetic or have family history of diabetes should try and cut down their daily intake of white rice. The research study has been conducted by a team of researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH). The researcher said that more than five servings of white rice per week can aggravate the diabetes condition in the patients.

As per, the researchers also suggested that instead of white rice, brown rice should be included in the daily diet. Brown rice which is rich in several vitamins and minerals including fiber content and phytochemicals can prove out to be beneficial in lowering the risk of diabetes by 16 percent.

Other whole grains like barley may help bring down the rick of the disease by 36 percent. The research study has been published in the journal called Archives of Internal Medicine. Speaking about the study and the growing consumption of white rice among American, Professor Frank Hu commented: “From a public health point of view, whole grains, rather than refined carbohydrates, such as white rice, should be recommended as the primary source of carbohydrates for the U.S. population.”
