A recently conducted study has revealed that obesity is the prime reason of fibromyalgia. According to www.sciencedaily.com, people who are obese and do not engage in physical exercise are at more risk of developing fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia, or FM, is basically a syndrome of chronic pain characterized by severe pain in shoulders, neck, legs and arms, which tends to last for around two to three months.
The symptoms of the disease are disturbed sleeping pattern, fatigue, cognitive difficulty, headache and mood swings and women are more likely to fall prey to the disease. The study has been conducted by a team of researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
As reported by www.webmd.com, the data for the study was attained by the researchers from the study of Nord-Trøndelag Health (HUNT). The researchers examined several factors including intensity, frequency and duration of exercise among women.
The facts revealed that women who engaged in regular moderate exercise had lower risk of fibromyalgia as compared to those who had either erratic workout regimen or did not exercise at all.
“Community-based measures aimed at reducing the incident of fibromyalgia should emphasize the importance of regular physical exercise and maintenance of normal weight.” said the researchers.
