Make berries a part of your diet to keep your brain young


In a new report published in, it has been said that eating berries is good for protecting the brain from memory loss and ageing. Blueberries, blackberries and strawberries have polyphenolics and this compound helps the brain in keeping itself updated.

It has been proved that consumption of fruits that have red, orange or blue pigments can cause the blood to regain its power. The research was done on mice and they were given a berry-rich diet.

According to the research report published in, polyphenolics present in the fruits prove helpful to microglia cells and this is what helps them in cleaning up the toxins that cause memory loss and mental decline. The researchers are of the view that when a person ages, the microglia stop working and the debris lines up in the brain.

This might also lead to over-activation of these cells, leading to damage of brain cells. Researcher Shibu Poulose said that “Our research suggests that the polyphenolics in berries have a rescuing effect. They seem to restore the normal housekeeping function. These findings are the first to show these effects of berries.”
