A recent study has uncovered yet another factor behind obesity. According to www.sciencedaily.com, people working under extremely stressful situations are highly vulnerable to becoming obese and overweight. The study conducted by the researchers at the University Of Rochester Medical Center also revealed that gorging on vegetables and fruits helped only a little to beat the chronic stress at the workplace. However, exercise comes across as the breakthrough option to deal with stress and keep away from obesity.
During the study, employed people from all walks of life were studied. As per www.healthjockey.com, researchers found that as much as 75 % of the total sample population which was studied was obese or overweight. The volunteers also told the researchers that they watch television for about two to three hours daily which also contributed to the growing problem of obesity. It was also discovered that during the time of recession when a lot of people were being fired, employees were found to be binging on some of the fattiest foods. This reestablished the connection between stress and heavy diet of employees.
Diana Fernandez, the lead researcher of the study says: “It is important to focus on strengthening wellness programs to provide good nutrition, ways to deal with job demands, and more opportunities for physical activity that are built into the regular workday without penalty.”
