About Lung Cancer:

Lung cancer (also known as Bronchogenic carcinoma) causes 1.3 million deaths per year worldwide. In the United States, it is the most common cancer in men, and the second most common in women (after breast cancer). Like all cancers, it is a disease of uncontrolled cell growth, which can easily spread to other areas of the body. The two most common types of lung cancer are small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).


Research points to tobacco smoke as the most common cause of lung cancer, though there are a number of other potential causes, such as:

Diagnosis and Treatment:

Lung cancer can be seen on a chest radiograph. The diagnosis is then confirmed through a biopsy – an examination of tissue removed from the body to discover the presence of the disease. The treatment usually depends on the patient’s physical health, the type of cancer and how far it has spread.

Usually, small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) is treated with chemo- and radiotherapy, whereas non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) can often be removed through surgery.
