In a ‘controversial’ interview given to Parade magazine, Brad Pitt has given a scathing review of his marriage to actress Jennifer Aniston, describing his life during that period as “pathetic”. Well, allegedly.
In an interview that other publications are calling insensitive, the actor portrays his marriage to Aniston as miserable and also said that making Angelina Jolie the mother of his children was the “smartest thing” he’d ever done.
Pitt, 47, is in the process of promoting Moneyball – his latest movie and so this might be a cheap attempt at attracting attention for the movie. Afterall, the only publicity the actor has ever really received has been based around his relationships with the Friends star and current shag piece, Jolie. Something the general public took an inordinate interest in. Clearly their own lives were that dull and tragic that they needed to live vicariously through a showbiz love triangle, that never really existed, but was borne of a media eager to create headlines.
“I spent the ’90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic,” Pitt told the magazine. “It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself.” He continues ‘I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t.”
So what he really said that his life was pathetic around that time. Not his marriage. That he was trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t. Don’t the media love to orchestrate things, amplify them and then blow them out of all recognisable proportion?
Pitt and Aniston were married in 2000 having dated for part of the nineties. The marriage lasted five years, and eventually disbanded not long after he made the movie Mr and Mrs Jones with current wife Jolie and together they now have six kids, three of which they adopted.
“One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom. She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her,” said Pitt later in the interview. Which other websites consider a slight on Jennifer Anniston who has made public her desire to have a family. Ok so maybe Pitt is still so bitter and twisted about his break up with an actress famous for her role in a TV series and unhappy with his stupendously beautiful A-lister wife (with squid lips), that he is still publicly taunting her five years’ later. Or his comments have been taken completely out of context. Perhaps he has grown up and now understands how to make a marriage work, more so than he did when he was with Rachel from Friends..
According to the interview Pitt is now very much a contented man.
“I put much more emphasis on being a satisfied man. I’m satisfied with making true choices and finding the woman I love, Angie, and building a family that I love so much.”
Brad Pitt is currently filming yet another zombie film entitled World War Z. Moneyball is out for release on 23rd September.
The press would like to think that Anniston will be distraught at their play on the comments made by her ex-husband in his interview. But as he didn’t actually call her or his marriage boring, and because they split up six years ago, and because she has a new boyfriend and currently has enough to concern herself with, with her 75-year-old mother in a critical condition in hospital having suffered a stroke, she might have better things to think about.
The only thing keeping the Aniston/Pitt/Jolie rivalry alive is a media hungry for celeb gore, whether real or otherwise, to feed to its zombie readership.
