Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds call it quits on their two-year marriage

Two years after saying “I do” during their intimate wedding ceremony with close friends and family at a remote wilderness retreat outside of Vancouver, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have decided to end their marriage.

“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” they said in a statement.

“We entered out relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While provacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

Johansson, 26, started dating the Canadian actor, 34, in 2007, shortly after he broke off his two-year engagement to singer Alanis Morisette.

Early on in their marriage, the Iron Man actress spoke about married life as being a “very beautiful time” for her, and hubby Ryan described it as the “best part” of his life.

The reason for their break-up? Apparently infidelity wasn’t an issue. Rather, it was the time they spent apart working on movies that eventually placed too big a strain on their marriage. A source told UsMagazine.com: “They are being very civil about it. The big problem with their relationship is the distance. They spend a lot of time apart when they are working…She’s been unhappy for a while.”

Scarlett’s break-up from Reynolds is the latest in a number of A-listers calling it quits on their marriages. Read here about Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar, and Dexter stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter.
