Russell Brand and Katy Perry marry Indian style

The wedding took place deep in the grounds of the Amaan-i-Khas resort, a deeply wooded area of Ranthambore National Park.  The park, a reserve for tigers, around 100 kilometers south of Jaipur, allowed the couple the privacy they wanted.

While traditional Rajasthani music played in specially erected tents, a wealth of international journalists strained for a glimpse of proceedings, shut out by sturdy fences more than 150 meters away.

The couple invested heavily in security in order to keep the marriage under a veil of secrecy. Black screens and a mobile phone ban ensured the wedding was kept from prying eyes and a representative for the couple said that contrary to reports, publicity rights had not been sold to a London magazine.

Brand, who has recently been seen sporting henna patterns on his hands, reporetedly dressed in khakis for the ceremony which has been described as “spiritual” and was performed by a Christian minister to a small gathering of close family and friends.

One notable absentee was pop star Rihanna although she was not the maid of honour as previously reported by some media sources.

Names on the celebrity guest list include Brand’s close friend and TV presenter Jonathon Ross, as well as Oasis song-smith Noel Gallagher who reportedly arrived in a blacked out limousine.

According to several inaccurate stories, the couple chose the nature reserve for their wedding after Brand proposed to Perry there last December but representatives have said these reports are wide of the mark.

Brand has apparently bought Perry a Bengal Tiger as a wedding present but it will remain at the national park and he will pay for its upkeep and medical needs.  Perry has reportedly invested in a similar present for Brand – a baby elephant.

The only occurrence to mar the build up happened on Friday when a Reuters witness reported that four photographers were attacked by a member of Brand’s security detail while trying to take pictures of the groom-to-be on a safari trip.

One of the actor’s bodyguards smashed camera equipment and injured one of the photographers before taking the keys to their vehicle, leaving them stranded in the tiger reserve.
