Perez Hilton to quit blog bullying

According to Reuters this morning celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has vowed to stop “outing” gay and lesbian celebrities and will support a new campaign to help raise awareness about the causes of teen suicides and gay bullying.

Following the suicide of Tyler Clementi, a 19 year-old-student who was cruelly filmed in a sexual encounter with another man by his so-called friends, Perez Hilton has decided to change tack with his popular blog site.

Hilton requested to appear on the Ellen Degeneres Show where he told the popular TV host he wanted his blog site to be seen in a new light and that he would no longer call people by nasty nicknames or “out” people.

In a transcript for tonight’s show he told Degeneres, “Over the last two weeks I have been doing everything I can to bring awareness to the teen suicides and gay bullying.  In doing so a lot of people have called me a hypocrite and a bully myself and a big one…  From now on I really want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem.”

When Degeneres raised concerns that he might return to his wicked ways if he lost revenue from his blog site, the openly gay celebrity observer replied, “I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and this was the impetus for it all.  It’s definitely a concern but I don’t care, I’m not motivated by money.  I just feel like it’s the right decision for me.”

After Clementi’s suicide Ellen Degeneres, through her TV show, has called for celebrity support in speaking out on gay bullying.

What do you think?  Can Perez Hilton really quit his bitching?
