‘Wedding Crashers’ star Owen Wilson has lived a troubled life with depression but unlike other celebrities he never brought the issue in the media’s eye. Owen, an actor primarily found in comedies, had a great career with a huge fan following and a luxurious lifestyle. Eventually he took on a common Hollywood habit: drugs and parties. He also suffered from depression and started taking pills to fight this mental condition.
Owen struggled with his drug addiction and depression privately. Owen Wilson, known for his comic skills, kept the dark side of his life private and it only came into the limelight after he attempted suicide on August 26, 2007. He was found after consuming a cocktail of drugs and slashing his wrists.
While recovering at St. John’s Health, Owen Wilson issued a statement saying, “I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.”
During his stay at the hospital, it was revealed that depression was the root cause behind his suicide attempt following which he underwent treatment for depression. Though it is believed that people with the ability to make others laugh are actually happy in their real lives but in the case of Owen Wilson, it was the other way round. Many say the end of his relationship to fellow actress Kate Hudson and his ensuing heartbreak are to blame for his stunt.
Owen made his first public appearance two months after the suicide attempt. The actor, who is famous for his roles in movies like ‘Zoolander’, ‘Starsky & Hutch’ and ‘You, Me and Dupree’, appears to have gotten his life back on track. He has, since his suicide attempt, starred in several successful movies, and has several projects lined up for the future.
Although his career is flourishing, he still keeps his personal life fiercely private. One is only left to assume and hope that too is flourishing.
