She is the new global superstar, and the creative artist behind party hits like ‘Alejandro’ and ‘Poker Face’. The 24-year-old New York native has really made a name for herself, and earned huge respect from colleagues, fans and the media.
Lady Gaga shocked fans and upset anti-drug bodies the world over when she admitted to taking cocaine as “inspiration”.
“[Using drugs] I really figured out the art I wanted to make and was inspired,” The Huffington Post quotes her as saying. “Some people find inspiration in dark places. I guess I’m one of them. What always made me different is that if I was doing drugs I was also making music. I wasn’t just doing drugs.”
However her cocaine use became so heavy it almost cost her her career, and caused her to confront her issues. In order to regain control of her life, she went home to stay with her 82-year-old grandmother.
“I cried,” she told Vanity Fair for the September issue. “I told her I thought my life was over and I have no hope and I’ve worked so hard, and I knew I was good. What would I do now? And she said, ‘I’m gonna let you cry for a few more hours. And then after those few hours are up, you’re gonna stop crying, you’re gonna pick yourself up, you’re gonna go back to New York, and you’re gonna kick some ass.’”
She does not, however, condone her behavior, and wants to make sure her fans understand it was a low point.
“I do not want my fans to ever emulate that or be that way,” she said. “I don’t want my fans to think they have to be that way to be great. It’s in the past. It was a low point, and it led to disaster.”
Now that she has picked up her life and is enjoying a stellar career and international superstardom, Lady Gaga has admitted to only consuming cocaine occasionally now.
“And when I say occasional, I mean maybe a couple of times a year.”
Now she is a serious artist with a serious career to manage.
“Once you open those doors they’re open for ever,” Telegraph.co.uk quotes her as saying. “People who say they need [drugs] to be creative are full of s***. I’m not some chick on the road getting high and f***** up every night. I wake up, drink coffee and get on the phone to talk about the creative direction of the next video.”
