The reality TV star has long been in the media for her weight problems: she gains weight, and complains about being too chubby. Often, she is even ridiculed in the media for her excess pounds. Several times she has surprised with her dramatic weight losses: through diets, through ‘Dancing With The Stars’ or through a malfunctioning thyroid, even.
Kelly claims her huge weight loss wasn’t due to watching her diet or extreme dancing exercise, but rather because she has an overactive thyroid, otherwise known as hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid is overly active, producing too many thyroid hormones, which stimulate the metabolism of the cells in the body. Some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism include very frequent bowel movements, weight loss, fatigue and agitation.
She wowed her fans (and the media) with her much smaller frame, and claims she lost 30lbs just by having a thyroid disorder. The outspoken spoke about how easy it was for her to lose weight.
“Forget all that healthy-eating bullsh**,” thyroid.about.com quotes her as saying in an interview. “ I have a thyroid problem which means I sh** all the time.”
Realizing she had a medical problem, doctors wanted the 25-year-old to undergo treatment. Kelly blatantly refuses to.
“My doctors want me to start taking steroids for it but f*** that,” she said. “I don’t want to put all the weight back on again.”
While it is true that treatment for hyperthyroidism usually sees the patient gain weight, not getting treatment at all is far worse, and can have serious consequences. Some of these include anxiety, depression and osteoporosis.
