For Keira Knightley anorexia is something she understands very well because it runs in her family. In an interview, Keira talked about her family history of anorexia and said: “I’ve got a lot of experience with anorexia, my grandmother and great-grandmother suffered from it, and I had a lot of friends at school who suffered from it. I know it’s not something to be taken lightly and I don’t.”
Though Keira’s family suffered from long years of eating disorders, she always denied that she is anorexic. Talking about her displeasure with media discussing her skinny appearance, Knightley said: “I had no idea that I was. I’m not saying there aren’t people in the film industry that suffer from it, because I am sure that there are. But I’m quite sure I don’t have it”.
When the media photographed Keira in a skimpy outfit at the premier of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, in which her shoulder blades and ribs were jutting out and her arms looked bony, many heavy questions began to circulate about the celebrity’s health. But Keira maintained that that is just the way her body looks – naturally. She claims she doesn’t even exercise.
“I don’t do a thing to keep fit, I just cannot make myself work out. My abs are just luck – my mum has good ones so it’s a family trait,” she said.
This beauty of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ fame admitted that she is thin but then she emphasized on the fact that she loves her body and said: “I’m incredibly self-conscious about my body”.
Like other Hollywood actresses, Keira also felt the pressure of staying in shape because of her profession and to this Keira once said: “I think I always disappoint people, because they always expect someone very pretty. Very done. There’s so much pressure to be thin, blonde and busty. I’m skinny, but even I couldn’t fit into some of the clothes there (in L.A.)!”
