Britain’s soulful singer Katie Melua has admitted that she was hospitalized after suffering a breakdown due to overworking.
Melua shot to fame with her debut single The Closest Thing to Crazy in 2003 when she was just 18 and four years later she was the best-selling female musician in her country. Last year, however, Katie was forced to cancel several of her concerts, with her medical team saying that she was suffering from exhaustion and that she should not work for a few months.
Now in an interview with Daily Mail, the 26 year old has elaborated on why she needed to take some time out from the music scene: “I’ve had a bit of a breakdown and been very unwell. It’s a very sensitive subject. I don’t want to go into a lot of detail, but I had to drop out for a bit.”
“The fact is, I just couldn’t go on any longer. I knew there was something seriously wrong because I was just sitting in a chair staring into space.
“I had to drop out, go on holiday and have a rest. The problem is that I love what I’m doing and I can’t stop doing it. But I was working myself into the ground.”
