John Goodman has always been known for playing the chubby, working class father in 1990s hit TV show ‘Roseanne’. Realizing the health complications that come hand in hand with obesity and age, John has reportedly decided to do something about his figure.
Earlier this month he showed off his svelte new body at the AFI Life Achievement Award for Mike Nichols. Photos of the dashing 58-year-old decorated the pages of many magazines and websites in the days to come.
During an appearance on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’ shortly after showing off his new body on the red carpet, John was asked what his maximum weight was.
“Plenty … pushing 400 … somewhere up around there,” The Huffington Post quotes him as saying on the show. John went on to explain how for years, especially during his work on ‘Roseanne’, his body endured a vicious cycle of putting on and taking off weight.
“I’d get off of ‘Roseanne’ every spring. I’d lose 60 lbs every spring. Then I got too fond of the barley corn… I’d gain it back and then some, every year.”
While the exact amount of weight John has lost remains unknown and unconfirmed, some media outlets predict he can have lost anywhere from 100lbs to even 200lbs! Not enough, he says, before adding he’d like to lose some more.
“[I’m] getting a lot of exercise, I feel great. It’s going to be an ongoing process for the rest of my life.”
