Jane Fonda goes straight into launching fitness DVDs after brush with breast cancer

The actress and fitness guru was diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer in October but after a successful procedure she is free of the disease and busy promoting her new fitness DVDs.

Entertainment Tonight revealed that Fonda underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor that was discovered in her breast a few weeks ago during a routine mammogram. Fortunately the cancer turned out to be non-invasive and she won’t have to undergo any further treatment.

Fonda took to her blog this morning to tell her legion of fans: “I had a scare with a non-invasive breast cancer but it is ALL OUT NOW!!! I am so lucky.

“We got it early and it was, as I said, non-invasive. I want to thanks my friends and fans who have written beautiful letters. It has meant a lot to me.”

Jane Fonda was the reigning fitness queen of the 80s and 90s with over 20 fitness videos to her name and she triggered a fitness revolution with her best-selling Jane Fonda’s Workout video.

The aerobics icon has been working on a series of new fitness DVDs and despite her recent cancer scare, she is busy promoting Jane Fonda: Prime Time Walkout and Jane Fonda: Prime Time Fit & Strong. Fans can see her slipping back into her leotard and leg warmers when the DVDs go on sale on November 30.

Speaking about her new DVDs, which will be targeting her own age group, the 72 year old told People: “I’m very excited to be back in the fitness business. I know from experience and from my research how critical it is for seniors to be physically active. Even if they’ve never exercised in their lives, now’s the time and my programs are a good, safe way to do it.”

It hasn’t always been all health and fitness for Jane Fonda, who has been plagued by eating disorders for much of her life. She was one of the first celebrities to openly discuss her battles with bulimia and anorexia. Read about her campaign against eating disorders.
