First the plastic surgeries, then the supposed nasty split and now this: publicity hungry couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt were detained after airport security found two unclaimed firearms in their luggage.
The two reality TV stars, who had recently had a very public and nasty split, were briefly detained at a Costa Rica airport on Saturday for illegal arms possession. Security found two handguns, namely a Colt .38 and a 9mm Glock, in Spencer’s bags as he was at the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia, Costa Rica, catching a flight back to the United States, CNN reports.
The guns were reportedly Spencer’s.
The pair were detained and questioned for 12 hours before being released and allowed to leave the country. But these 12 hours didn’t go wasted: Spencer now claims the pair have reconciled.
Heidi reportedly stood by him on what he called the craziest day of his life.
“It was clear we’re soul mates. I don’t see any reason we can’t get back on track,” the Associated Press quotes Spencer, 27, who is now back in Los Angeles, as saying.
Heidi handed in her divorce papers in July citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the pair separating following their April 2009 wedding.
Spencer, however, firmly believes this experience has brought them closer together.
“As far as I’m concerned the last thing in the world after everything we have just been through is to go through with this divorce,” the AP quotes 23-year-old Heidi as saying. “But we are just taking life second by second.”
Spencer had reportedly flown to Costa Rica to go on a jungle retreat in order to get his life back on track, and to hopefully end his obsession with fame. He reportedly brought the guns – protection during his time in the jungle – into Costa Rica on a private jet.
