Since their split in April last year, Halle Berry and former partner of five years Gabriel Aubrey have been snapped together several times with their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, giving the impression that there was no bad blood between them. But in a turn of events, their previously amicable custody agreement is turning into a nasty custody battle.
Halle, 44, released a statement saying she “has serious concerns for her daughter’s well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her.”
“Halle has attempted to resolve these custody issues amicably with her daughter’s father, Gabriel Aubry, directly, but given his lack of cooperation, Halle has no choice but to seek swift judicial intervention,’ her publicist said.
Pursuing sole custody was reportedly not something Aubry ever intended to pursue, but according to RadarOnline.com, Halle has gone too far and Canadian-born model now has lawyers on board in his bid to win custody of Nahla.
A source told the gossip mag: “Attacking Gabriel and accusing him of being an unfit father is totally below the belt and completely without merit. He’s going to give as good as he gets. There’s no way he is going to allow Halle to take his daughter away from him.”
Should it come to the crunch, Aubry, who believes he can provide Nahla with a more stable home life than Halle, apparently has more than enough incriminating evidence at hand — from embarrassing emails to voice mails — “that will show her true side and show how manipulative, mean and self-obsessed she can be”.
Oscar-winning Halle has pulled out of her latest movie New Year’s Eve, which was set to start filming this week, due to the custody battle.
While Halle may have the career many could only hope to dream of, her personal life — especially her relationships — leave a lot to be desired for. Read here about the star’s battle with depression after two failed marriages.
