Frankie Muniz and girlfriend 'are fine' after gun fiasco

Malcolm in the Middle star Frankie Muniz and his girlfriend Elycia Turnbow are reportedly still together and fine after police investigated a disturbance at their home involving a handgun.

The 25-year-old actor held the gun to his head “possibly with [the] intent of committing suicide” in a heated domestic fight last week, his girlfriend told Phoenix police, according to People.

According to the authority’s report, Turnbow, who works as a publicist, alleges that Muniz had “punched her in the back of the head.”

The sitcom star’s rep has denied that Muniz is suicidal to TMZ: “A gun played no part in the argument and was voluntarily given to the police for safekeeping,” the rep says. “He was not suicidal.”

Muniz had picked up the phone to call the police at around 10pm on Friday 11th February, according to the police report, after a fight over “prior relationships” had got out of hand. He complained that Turnbow was “throwing things and hitting [him].”

The argument had apparently started early in the day with “yelling and screaming”. At one point Muniz accidentally fell and fearing a head injury, asked a friend to drive him to the hospital. Upon his return, the actor went for a nap, only to be woken by Turbow “yelling at him and hitting him in the face about prior relationships” as well as demanding his laptop computer.

During the tussle that followed, according to Muniz, Turnbow “fell to the ground and started to kick the bedroom door.”

Turnbow told officers a different story. Before going to the hospital, the actor had apparently “grabbed a gun and held it to his head” in what she thought was a threat of suicide. The publicist claimed she called one of Muniz’s band mates because she “worried about his safety.” When he arrived back from hospital, he apparently “threw her into a wall while in the downstairs bedroom.”

Muniz denies having held the gun to his head and says he only grabbed the case. He also said he didn’t punch Turnbow: “I love her too much. She is the woman I want to marry.”

According to the report, Turnbow “showed signs and symptoms of drinking alcohol.”

The gun was confiscated and both were let off with a warning because there was no evidence of physical injury or damage to the property.

But now it seems the couple have quickly moved on from the incident. Muniz’s rep Lauren Tobin told People that the duo now “are fine” and “as far as they are concerned, their issues are resolved.”

The rep added that they are still “very much a couple” and that “neither one is interested in finger-pointing at the other. It was a situation that escalated beyond a point that it needed to be. If anything, they will look back at this as a learning opportunity.”

Tobin also stated that the actor was not suicidal and voluntarily handed over his gun to police for safekeeping.

Since Malcolm in the Middle ended in 2006, Muniz took a step back from Hollywood and concentrated on race car driving, according to People.

He later moved to Phoenix and joined the independent band You Hang Up early last year. Since the incident last week, Muniz has resumed performances with the four-person rock group for which he’s the drummer.

Other celebrities who have reportedly been involved in domestic disturbances include singer Rihanna, boxer Christy Martin, Vegas showgirl Debbie Flores-Narvaez, pop princess Britney Spears and former couple Liza Minnelli and David Gest.
