Elizabth Taylor has been admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles and is receiving treatment for congestive heart failure, a condition she disclosed she had in 2004.
The 78-year-old Oscar-winning screen legend’s has been weelchair-bound and suffered poorlyhealth for several years.”Elizabeth Taylor was hospitalized earlier this week…suffering from symptoms caused by cognitive heart failure, an ongoing condition,” her spokesperson Sally Morrison said in a statement. “The issue is being adressed. She is currently being kept in the hospital for monitoring.”
“Her family and close friends are appreciative of the warm support and interest of her loyal fans but have asked that people respect her privacy and allow her medical team the time and space to focus on restoring her back to health.”
The eight-times married star, considered one of the greatest actresses and beauties of Hollywood’s Golden Age, has struggled with health problems and with drug and alcohol abuse for much of her life.
Once quoted as saying “I enter hospitals as often as others enter taxis,” Elizabeth Taylor has had more than 20 operations and over 30 hospitalizations throughout the years, including two stints at the Betty Ford Center. Her overwhelming list of medical problems include a benign brain tumor, skin cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, pneumonia, ulcers, amoebic dysentery, seizures and a stroke.
