Dennis Hopper loses battle with cancer

‘Easy Rider’ star and general Hollywood legend Dennis Hopper passed away at his home yesterday after battling prostate cancer for 10 years. The actor’s representatives only announced to the media that Dennis was ill in October 2009, after published images of Dennis being rushed to hospital a month prior, with tubes all over his body, made headlines.

According to PEOPLE, Dennis’ family members told the magazine the cancer had spread to other organs in the body.

A very ill Dennis Hopper was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

While Dennis’ personal life has made headlines recently, including his bitter divorce battle from current (and fifth) wife, Victoria, not much is known about his illness or how he has chosen to combat it. Dennis began to lose weight in early 2010, with his lawyer reporting Dennis was terminally ill and unable to undergo chemotherapy in March.

We’re told Dennis passed away in his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family. He was 74 years old.

Other celebrities who died this year include Gary Coleman.

Other celebrities who have battled prostate cancer include Robert DeNiro,  Andrew Lloyd Weber and Charlton Heston.
