Sick Celebrities

Celebrities and Viruses

Online security technology giant, McAfee Inc, has announced that Jessica Biel – 27-year-old actress and girlfriend of singer Justin Timberlake – is the most “dangerous“ celebrity on the net. According to company, online searches for the star could spread computer viruses faster than any other celebrity.

McAfee have pointed out that the chances of being led to a damaging website, whilst searching for information, images and videos etc. of Biel, are around 20%.

The title of “most dangerous celebrity” on the web went to actor Brad Pitt last year, and other celebrities are also thought to pose a threat to internet users – actress Jennifer Aniston, footballer Tom Brady, and singers Beyonce Knowles and Jessica Simpson are among them.

Senior vice president of McAfee’s product development, Jeff Green, commented: “Cybercriminals are star watchers, too. They latch onto popular celebrities to encourage the download of malicious software in disguise.“

The simple act of searching for the latest celebrity gossip and pictures online can cause serious damage to one’s computer, according to Green.

“Every day, cybercriminals use celebrities’ names and images, like Rihanna, to lure surfers searching for the latest stories, screensavers and ringtones to sites offering free downloads laden with malware.”
