Brittany Murphy had diabetes

Brit

Gossip site TMZ.com reported that Brittany’s mother, who found her unresponsive in the shower, told paramedics she has type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes, or diabetes mellitus type 2, is the most common form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the cells in the body ignore insulin. Essentially the body uses insulin to break down the sugar from food and transport it across the body to cells. This conversion of sugar and starches makes glucose, which is needed for energy.

When the body’s cells do not obtain enough glucose due to a lack of insulin being produced, or when the cells ignore the insulin, it can have serious consequences. Firstly, the body’s cells begin starving. Secondly, having consistently high levels of glucose in the blood can seriously damage organs like kidneys, eyes, heart or even nerves.

Simply put: people with diabetes are at a much higher risk of suffering from heart attacks or dying as a result of cardiovascular disease.

Whether diabetes played a role in the death of the actress remains unknown for now.  Others have raised accusations that Hollywood’s pressure to be thin cause Brittany to become anorexic, and that her eating disorder may have contributed to her death. Others claim she her minor heart condition may have also played a role. We won’t know anything for sure until further analyses on her brain and organs have been completed. This is expected to take four to six weeks.

Brittany Murphy was found unresponsive in the shower early Sunday morning. Paramedics were called, but all attempts to revive the ‘Clueless’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted’ actress failed. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

Other celebrities who died in 2009 include Stephen GatelyCasey JohnsonAdam Goldstein and Michael Jackson.
