Aretha Franklin falls over heels

Aretha Franklin has suffered an unusual and rather embarrassing accident. The Queen of Soul fell over one of her stiletto Jimmy Choo heels in her hotel suite in Dallas last Friday. Apparently she had gotten her toe caught.

Franklin, 69, said via her rep: “hurt like heck for a minute, but seemed to subside,” People cites.

A few days later, the star’s tour bus made an unscheduled stop at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. There, X-rays were taken and revealed a fracture in her left index toe.

Still, she says: “I’m so grateful it wasn’t my right piano [pedal] foot.”

“How am I supposed to match my new Marc Jacobs gown with this wooden blue hospital shoe?” she joked, speaking of an upcoming concert in Virginia.

Aretha Franklin recently shed 85 pounds, leading to rumours that she may have pancreatic cancer. She underwent surgery towards the end of last year to rectify an undisclosed illness , fuelling the rumours.

But Aretha later rubbished the claim during an interview with Access Hollywood, in which she said, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from, I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

So how has the singing legend, who dropped three dress sizes, managed to lose so much weight? She’s ditched heavily chemically treated foods and is drinking lots of water to rid her body of toxins. “It’s a natural flushing. Water flushes your system and is also very good for your skin,” she said.

[adsense]Naturally there’s more. “I used to have hamburgers coming and going, especially when I was on the road,” Franklin said. “Now, occasionally I will still have that quarter pounder because I love fast food, but you have to keep it to a minimum. I am now opting for salads and just healthier lunches.”

Today her measuring cups and spoons, along with daily weigh-ins, help her keep it in check. “I’m finding out that you’re not gonna starve [if you limit yourself],” she says. A taste for nuts, greens and fresh produce doesn’t hurt either. “I make a mean salad,” says Franklin. When she feels like cheating, “I have a cup of ice cream. I don’t go hog wild.” She also goes to the gym three times a week and walks 1.5 miles on the track each time.

Now, aside from the minor injury to her toe, all the diva can say is that she feels “fabulous”.
