Hollywood celebrities are all too familiar with the pressure to keep the tell-tale signs of ageing at bay, leading to young actresses like Heidi Montag having plastic surgery before they have even reached their 30s. But not Anne Hathaway. The 28 year old is steering clear of Botox because she doesn’t want to “erase” who she is.
In an interview with the UK edition of Elle Magazine The Devil Wears Prada star revealed that she turned down an offer to get the wrinkle-busting injections when she was just 23 (and probably with not a wrinkle in sight!) because her lines, or ‘imperfections’, are part of who she is; they tell a story.
“I had someone offer me Botox when I was 23,” the actress said. “From the age of 25 to 27 – and this is a little embarrassing to admit – I looked under my eyes every single day, because I thought, ‘It’s going, it’s going, it’s going!’
“And then I realised the other day they’re not wrinkles; they’re smile lines. If you look at pictures of me from a young age, I’ve been smiling the same way since I was little. “And I had that wonderful moment when you realise, ‘That’s who I am.’ Botox would erase that.”
Hathaway, who rose to fame when she starred in the Princess Diaries, admitted that it took her a long time to feel comfortable in her own skin.
‘”I focus on other things a lot more now.
And dieting is not one of them: “I’ve hit the point in my life where I understand that being skinny is not sustainable, and nor is it advisable, and nor is it enjoyable,’ the sensible actress said.
Lets hope she sticks to her guns. Plenty of actresses have said they won’t go down the cosmetic surgery route and next thing they’re sporting inflated breasts and frozen faces with trout pouts. Read here about Desperate Housewives Dana Delaney’s botched botox.
Fans of Anne Hathaway can see her on the big screen again tomorrow when her latest film Love and Other Drugs, also starring Jake Gyllenhaal, opens in the US tomorrow.
