James Mitchell was known by his fans to play one of the roughest, meanest roles in daytime television. Playing the patriarch Palmer Cortlandt for 30 years in ‘All My Children’, an award-winning soap opera, was something he loved to do, his long-time partner Albert Wolsky told Parade.
“He really enjoyed it,” Albert said of James’ role on the soap. “The meaner he could be, the happier he was.”
James died at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Friday after contracting pneumonia after years of battling heart disease.
James was a full-time actor on the soap for 30 years, appearing in 300 episodes. He was a regular until 2008, after which he made only one special appearance, CNN writes, on January 5 2010, for the show’s 40th anniversary episode.
