Alicia Silverstone is an advocate of animal rights and the vegan lifestyle

Alicia Silverstone is something of an old fashioned individual and her high morals, standards and ethical beliefs have lent determination and authenticity to her work as a vegan and animal rights ambassador. She has taken part in many anti-fur campaigns and has also written books on the vegan diet and its excellent health benefits.

Speaking to the press on the new family’s behalf a representative said: “Mom and Dad are completely in love with their beautiful baby boy.”

Perhaps a career low point, the leather clad image of Batgirl is contrary to Alicia Silverstone's beliefs

And in her own blog, The Kind Life (with Alicia Silverstone) she wrote, “We are all three in love. I’m so grateful to this community for all the love, support, good wishes and happy vibes you’ve sent me during my pregnancy … it has been wonderful. Thank you all!’

No doubt she will be raising Bear Blu on a vegan diet and it’s encouraging to see that more and more people are prepared to lead the way when it comes to the natural human way of eating.

In her book, The Kind Diet, she talks of the impact our over-produced, mass transported and refrigerated foods have on the environment and animal world and gives us insights into the vegan world and its guilt-free conscience lifestyle.

With two films set for release in the near future, Vamps and Butter, the train never seems to stop for Alicia Silverstone but given her ideals she’ll be focused on giving her son the best possible start in life.

Not one for basking in the Hollywood limelight Silverstone is set to enjoy family life at her Californian eco-home which has been designed to be sustainable and self-sufficient by using solar panles to subsidise electric use and an organic vegetable patch where, like Jake Gyllenhaal, she grows her own food.

To round things off the actress and author also has a growing pack of rescued dogs to share her land with.

Jake Gyllenhaal turns Cupid and believes everyone has time for love

Hot on the heels of his involvement in the Edible Schoolyard project, Jake Gyllenhaal is turning his hand to the role of love archer as he discusses the prospect of future relationships and how everyone has time for love.

Gyllenhaal is a relaxed character who seems to glide through life without much concern and despite his roguish handsomeness, the Hollywood heartthrob has his heart is in the right place and he clearly cares about the world he lives in.

Jake Gyllenhaal believes everyone has time for love

He may still quietly be licking the wounds from the fallout of his relationship with Taylor Swift, from whom he separated in January this year but the end of that romance hasn’t deterred him from future adventures in the realm of love.

While many people fail to understand why the enigmatic star of such fare as Donnie Darko and Brokeback Mountain is still single, he looks to be biding his time until he meets that someone special who compliments his personality rather than manipulates it.

“What I believe about love is that, whether it’s with your family, whether it’s with somebody you fall in love with and have a relationship with, it’s all about being seen.

“It’s all about someone saying, ‘I see you. I see who you are. I love who you are. I appreciate who you are.’”

“I think everybody has time to fall in love when they’re doing anything.”

Never a truer word spoken Jake. One thing you can guarantee about love is that you never find it when you’re looking for it and you never see true love coming.

Jake Gyllenhaal wants to change the world with Edible Schoolyard

JAKE GYLLENHAAL, star of Prince of Persia and Donnie Darko is offering his celebrity status and love of all things natural to spearhead a new campaign aimed at encouraging American schools to grow their own fruit and vegetables in a bid to improve young people’s relationship with their food and to raise their awareness of the natural environment around them.

It is perhaps little known that Gyllenhaal is something of a wizard in the kitchen and his skills came about by growing up around home-grown food. He is now using his knowledge and love of food to help Edible Schoolyard on their crusade to bring a little more green thinking to the minds of the younger generations.

Jake Gyllenhaal is hoping to steer young minds towards natural, healthy food

“We’re trying to make it possible to have an edible garden in every public school in America. Kids can have a new relationship to nature and to their food and to their diet and an understanding where their food comes from. Kids can take classes in these gardens and learn mathematics by counting vegetables and engage in the world in a different way than we’re used to in schools.

“It’s basically to take a piece of the concrete out and put in a garden where children can explore and learn and hopefully it changes them. I grew up around edible gardens all over the place in Los Angeles and a little bit outside of Boston, and it’s changed my perspective on the world and I think it could change the world.

“My family always emphasised it and it’s an incredibly economic way of feeding the family and having everybody learn where your food comes from. It’s something that I care deeply about. I remember my niece, when she was first born, and the great irony of her learning how to walk by holding onto tomato plants and how to count with cherry tomatoes. When a kid grows up that way and is involved with seeing something grow and seeing something die and seeing something be reused, it’s a different kind of upbringing.

[adsense]”If you can bring that to every kid in America and hopefully some day to every kid in the world, you’d be raising an entire new generation of kids with a different mindset about how to take care of the world and how to treat each other. I think it could be incredibly revolutionary.”

Has Jake Gyllenhaal made a swift leap from Taylor to Camilla Belle?

If the latest rumors are anything to go by, Jake Gyllenhaal may have his sights set on actress Camilla Belle after getting friendly with her at the Art of Elysium gala event.

The Art of Elysium is a charity — popular among celebrities –which brings the arts to children suffering from serious medical conditions. Actors, artists and musicians are often the volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to the little ones, transporting them away from their medical challenges and into the world of fashion, art, comedy, photography, painting or creative writing.

The organization held its 4th annual Heaven Gala event on January 16th, 2010. The black tie fundraising ball is a magnet for beautiful young Hollywood, and it was here that — according to internet rumors — Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted “flirting all night” with 24-year-old beauty Camille Belle.

“They hung out together the entire night. They were talking intimately, and laughing,” Radar Online‘s source said. “There really seemed to be chemistry, a connection. Jake and Camilla were flirting all night. And before he left, I saw him very affectionately touching her arm. She is definitely his type.”

Of course, these things have to be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, it was just the other day that Jake and country singer Taylor Swift were being slated as the next big thing. But as fast as their relationship took off, it petered out. Interesting here, is that Camille and Taylor have both dated the same guy in the past: Joe Jonas. Perhaps they share a similar taste in men…

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal call it quits after two month fling

Hollywood’s hottest new couple have decided to go their separate ways after a brief whirlwind romance that ended just as quickly as it began.

Although Taylor and Jake never officially anounced they were together, they reportedly started dating in October, during which time the pair met one another’s families, they spent Thanksgiving together and Jake splashed out on a $11,000 vintage Gretsch guitar as a present for Taylor’s 21st birthday. They were last snapped together on 9 December, looking very loved up while out shopping and eating.

The reason for the split? It may have been partly down to the fact that he is nine years older than the country singer. According to the new issue of US Weekly, a source said:  “He said he wasn’t feeling it anymore and was uncomfortable with all the attention they got.”

“He also said he could feel the age difference. Taylor is really upset. We told her not to move so fast with this but she didn’t listen.’

‘”Jake cares about her, but [the publicity] was a lot for him. He wants to keep his private life private, and that’s hard to do dating Taylor.”

Then again it may have been Swift who had second thoughts about their relationship. In an interview with Allure, she said: “I have a phobia about being in the wrong relationship. So as soon as I establish that it’s not the right one, I don’t want to waste their time.”

Taylor, who has admitted she draws inspiration for her songs from her relationships, previously dated singer John Mayor and documeted the break-up with a ballad Dear John. So here’s guessing that we can probably expect to find out more about what’s behind her latest split on her next album.

Reese Witherspoon engaged to Jim Troth

Reese Witherspoon has confirmed her engagement to Hollywood agent Jim Troth.

“They are extremely happy,” the actress’s representative told Us Magazine.

Witherspoon, 34, began her relationship with Troth, 40, in January before making it official (and public) in March. Troth works for L.A.’s Creative Artists Agency, but reportedly does not represent his wife-to-be.

In October, a source close to Troth told People that, although the couple are not yet engaged, the agent was not far off proposing.

“Jim knows Reese is the one for him,” the source said. “It’s what he’s been waiting for. [Getting engaged] is a natural step for them.”

The rumours were so widespread that Witherspoon recently joked about them on Entertainment Weekly, saying: “My mom always texts me, like, ‘Are you getting married?’ I’m like, ‘Mom, come on! You would know if I was getting married.'”

A source close to the actress also spoke to People, saying Witherspoon is just as excited about Troth as he is about her: “Reese quickly realized that Jim was someone that she felt safe with and could count on.”

No less important is Witherspoon’s kids’ apparent approval of her future husband. Daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7, from her 7-year marriage to Ryan Phillippe, are both said to have bonded with Troth.

“They have vacationed together with Reese’s kids and everyone [got] along great,” the source added.

Witherspoon is apparently happy to be with someone “who’s more mature and in a place in his life where he’s ready to settle down. I think for the first time in a very long time, she feels as if she’s with a grown-up.”

Another pal tells Us Weekly: “She is definitely happy, in love and definitely wants to settle down.”

The couple got together shortly after Witherspoon’s split from actor Jake Gyllenhaal in 2009, whom she was dating for two years in what a source described to People as a “volatile relationship”.

According to People, commitment phobia on the actress’s behalf was one of the things that caused the pair to repeatedly break up.

“Jake would marry [Reese] tomorrow, but Reese doesn’t want to go there yet,” a friend of the couple’s told People. “There’s a huge attraction between them, and they’ve become a team, but Jake can be a little overbearing at times, and Reese is really happy with life right now. Why screw that up?”

The star said in her 2006 that she had been left wary of marriage: “I [had] a certain idea what I thought marriage gives, [but] sometimes it doesn’t work out that way,” she said. Asked if she would ever marry again, she replied, “I don’t know. I don’t think about it much.”

Witherspoon won an Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in Walk The Line. She currently stars in the romantic comedy How Do You Know.

Jake Gyllenhaal eats home grown food to stay in shape

The 29-year-old star of Donnie Darko, Prince of Persia and The Day After Tomorrow says that he’s not bothered about hitting the gym to keep in shape these days, especially for his naked scenes in Love and Other Drugs, as he eats healthy home grown vegetables.

He felt that bulking up for the role would have done a disservice to his character, “I didn’t think about getting in shape. I wanted my character to be a little sinewy and slimy.”

“I used to go to the gym but I don’t do that anymore. I don’t follow a special diet but I try and eat well, so I grow my own vegetables.”

And Gyllenhaal is not alone in growing his own food as actress Nicole Kidman also prefers the green fingered approach. She grows organic food in her garden at her and husband Keith Urban’s Nashville home, and she is encouraging two-year-old daughter Sunday Rose to follow in her horticultural footsteps.

On the start of her home farming she said: “We just planted our vegetables for the summer and all we have at the moment is lettuce. I’m hoping the corn will be beautiful, because I love eating corn out of the garden.”

Johnny Depp, self confessed recluse, admitted recently that he hates leaving the house except to check on the progress of his home grown vegetables.

He said: “We have a great place in the South of France. It’s a little hamlet – only about 45 acres – and I don’t do anything.

“I’ve not left the property for three months at a time. I literally just wake up, go out, check the garden and see the vegetables growing. It’s a pristine existence in terms of simplicity. There’s no talk of movies or work and, infinitely more importantly, the telephone never rings. It really is a beautiful, simple life.”

The news that celebrities grow their own food is an indication that people’s ideas of weight loss are moving away from quick fix diet pills which have raised so much controversy recently over fears concerning heart conditions, and celebrities are leaning more towards healthy, wholesome dietary changes and practises like yoga to stay in shape.

Photo shows Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Swift are a couple

Are they Hollywood’s hottest, freshest couple?  Rumors have been heating up in recent weeks and now, two days after Jake and Taylor were spotted celebrating Thanksgiving in New York, they have been photographed together enjoying a date at a coffee house in Nashville, the country singer’s hometown.

Fellow diner and amateur photographer Elaina Mishu, who snapped the two looking quite cosy together, told People magazine: “They were smiling and laughing. They were talking a lot and enjoying each other’s company.

“They didn’t look like just friends.

“They were not trying to be discreet by any means. They were definitely a couple. They looked very happy.”

Taylor, 22, has previously been romantically linked with stars including John Mayer and Taylor Lautner, while Jake, 29, and Reese Withserspoon were an item for four years, ending their relationship last year.

Anne Hathaway gives Botox the boot

Hollywood celebrities are all too familiar with the pressure to keep the tell-tale signs of ageing at bay, leading to young actresses like Heidi Montag having plastic surgery before they have even reached their 30s. But not Anne Hathaway. The 28 year old is steering clear of Botox because she doesn’t want to “erase” who she is.
In an interview with the UK edition of Elle Magazine The Devil Wears Prada star revealed that she turned down an offer to get the wrinkle-busting injections when she was just 23 (and probably with not a wrinkle in sight!) because her lines, or ‘imperfections’, are part of who she is; they tell a story.

“I had someone offer me Botox when I was 23,” the actress said. “From the age of 25 to 27 – and this is a little embarrassing to admit – I looked under my eyes every single day, because I thought, ‘It’s going, it’s going, it’s going!’

“And then I realised the other day they’re not wrinkles; they’re smile lines. If you look at pictures of me from a young age, I’ve been smiling the same way since I was little. “And I had that wonderful moment when you realise, ‘That’s who I am.’ Botox would erase that.”

Hathaway, who rose to fame when she starred in the Princess Diaries, admitted that it took her a long time to feel comfortable in her own skin.

“My identity used to be shaped on my appearance so much,” she said  “I don’t think I was shallow – I just think I was young.

‘”I focus on other things a lot more now.

And dieting is not one of them: “I’ve hit the point in my life where I understand that being skinny is not sustainable, and nor is it advisable, and nor is it enjoyable,’ the sensible actress said.

Lets hope she sticks to her guns. Plenty of actresses have said they won’t go down the cosmetic surgery route and next thing they’re sporting inflated breasts and frozen faces with trout pouts. Read here about Desperate Housewives Dana Delaney’s botched botox.

Fans of Anne Hathaway can see her on the big screen again tomorrow when her latest film Love and Other Drugs, also starring Jake Gyllenhaal,  opens in the US tomorrow.
