Aretha Franklin denies rumors of pancreatic cancer

Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin – the Queen of soul is looking slimmer and healthier than she has in many years despite being rumored to be suffering from pancreatic cancer.

The diva underwent surgery at the end of last year in order to rectify an undisclosed illness, but Aretha later rubbished the rumor that she was suffering from incurable pancreatic cancer during an interview with Access Hollywood. “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from, I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody,” says the chanteuse.

One she had deflated the pancreatic cancer rumor, a new rumor surfaced that she had undergone gastric bypass surgery due to her appearing svelte and healthy having shed 25lbs.

Franklin who turns 69 next month, revealed that she would like to reach a size 16 by her 69th birthday.

In order to reach her ideal weight, the R&B queen cut chemically treated foods from her diet and ensured that she drank plenty of water to flush the toxins from her body.

“I used to have hamburgers coming and going, especially when I was on the road,” Franklin said. “Now, occasionally I will still have that quarter pounder because I love fast food, but you have to keep it to a minimum. I am now opting for salads and just healthier lunches.”

Aretha Franklin falls over heels

Aretha Franklin has suffered an unusual and rather embarrassing accident. The Queen of Soul fell over one of her stiletto Jimmy Choo heels in her hotel suite in Dallas last Friday. Apparently she had gotten her toe caught.

Franklin, 69, said via her rep: “hurt like heck for a minute, but seemed to subside,” People cites.

A few days later, the star’s tour bus made an unscheduled stop at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. There, X-rays were taken and revealed a fracture in her left index toe.

Still, she says: “I’m so grateful it wasn’t my right piano [pedal] foot.”

“How am I supposed to match my new Marc Jacobs gown with this wooden blue hospital shoe?” she joked, speaking of an upcoming concert in Virginia.

Aretha Franklin recently shed 85 pounds, leading to rumours that she may have pancreatic cancer. She underwent surgery towards the end of last year to rectify an undisclosed illness , fuelling the rumours.

But Aretha later rubbished the claim during an interview with Access Hollywood, in which she said, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from, I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

So how has the singing legend, who dropped three dress sizes, managed to lose so much weight? She’s ditched heavily chemically treated foods and is drinking lots of water to rid her body of toxins. “It’s a natural flushing. Water flushes your system and is also very good for your skin,” she said.

[adsense]Naturally there’s more. “I used to have hamburgers coming and going, especially when I was on the road,” Franklin said. “Now, occasionally I will still have that quarter pounder because I love fast food, but you have to keep it to a minimum. I am now opting for salads and just healthier lunches.”

Today her measuring cups and spoons, along with daily weigh-ins, help her keep it in check. “I’m finding out that you’re not gonna starve [if you limit yourself],” she says. A taste for nuts, greens and fresh produce doesn’t hurt either. “I make a mean salad,” says Franklin. When she feels like cheating, “I have a cup of ice cream. I don’t go hog wild.” She also goes to the gym three times a week and walks 1.5 miles on the track each time.

Now, aside from the minor injury to her toe, all the diva can say is that she feels “fabulous”.

From hamburgers to salads: Aretha Franklin reveals her weight loss secrets

The Queen of soul is looking slimmer and healthier than she has in many years — much to the surprise of her fans who for months have been led to believe that she is suffering from incurable pancreatic cancer. In a recent interview,  Aretha Franklin sheds some light on how she is shaping up.

Franklin underwent surgery towards the end of last year to rectify an undisclosed illness that many were reporting was incurable pancreatic cancer, but Aretha later rubbished that rumour during an interview with Access Hollywood, in which she said, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from, I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

Reports that she has cancer were then replaced with rumors that she underwent gastric bypass surgery. It’s not clear whether there is any truth to that, but we do know that she has played in active role in shedding 25lbs.

Franklin, who turns 69 next month, revealed her birthday wish in an interview with Jet magazine: “By my birthday I will be a 16 – that’s my birthday wish. And I just want to continue my super maintained health.”

“I look wonderful to myself at [US] size 14 or 16. But 16 is OK, too. I will rest my case at 16.”

[adsense]So how has the R&B diva, who has already dropped three dress sizes, knocked off the pounds? She’s ditched heavily chemically treated foods and is  drinking lots of water to rid her body of toxins. “It’s a natural flushing.Water flushes your system and is also very good for your skin,” the singing legend said.

Of course that’s not all. “I used to have hamburgers coming and going, especially when I was on the road,” Franklin said. “Now, occasionally I will still have that quarter pounder because I love fast food, but you have to keep it to a minimum. I am now opting for salads and just healthier lunches.”

For those of you who’d like to have a peek in her refrigerator, these are the ingredients she uses to whip up her “Aretha Salad”: radishes, tomatoes, red onions, olives, carrots, a little shredded cheese, ranch dressing and a little lemon.

Combine her healthy eating with the 30 minutes she walks on the treadmill, three to four times a week, and its no wonder Franklin is looking so good.

After being forced to cancel a string of concerts last year, fans can look forward to seeing “a brand new”  and “healthier version” of Aretha Franklin when she goes on tour in spring.

Aretha Franklin honored at the Grammy 2011 awards

Aretha Franklin is back in the news today after a stirring tribute was paid to the veteran soul singer at the 2011 Grammy Award ceremony last night; but fans are still wondering what her mystery illness is.

The ailing Memphis born legend was unable to attend the awards in person but she did feature thanks to a pre-recorded video message which was broadcast as part of the show. In the clip she thanked friends, family and fans for their ongoing support in her time of illness; although it’s still unclear what that illness actually is.

Speculation was rife a few months back that Franklin was suffering with pancreatic cancer, and the news came from a supposed family member, but Aretha quickly quashed that rumour during an interview with Access Hollywood, in which she said, “I don’t know where ‘pancreatic cancer’ came from, I was sitting there reading the newspaper and it was saying someone in my family said that. No one in my family ever said that to anybody.”

She underwent surgery towards the end of last year to rectify the anonymous problem which seems to have done the trick, as she is looking healthier and slimmer again.

The one time star of The Blues Brothers received a special homage thanks to the vocal talents of Christina Aguilera who is still making amends for the heinous error she made at the Super Bowl XLV when singing the wrong words to the national anthem.

[adsense]Jennifer Hudson also took part in the tribute and she has just finished working with Clive Davis of Arista Records, who in turn is looking forward to a new decade of projects with Aretha Franklin, provided her health holds up.

The 68 year old still has an incredible voice and is widely regarded as the queen of soul. Whatever the illness was she seems to be on the better side of it now and by all accounts will be back to doing what she does best in the very near future.

Aretha Franklin all smiles at basketball game 2 months after surgery

The star of hits such as Respect and Think looked healthy  and in good spirits when she  watched the Detroit Pistons play Miami Heat with the Reverend Jesse Jackson in what is believed to be one of her first public appearances since undergoing surgery two months ago.

During a break a big screen showed Franklin waving to the crowd and laughing, while some of her songs played over the sound system. “I’m feeling great. Loving the game, loving the game,” Franklin said, going on to add that she hopes to resume her public schedule in May.

In November last year the Queen of Soul was ordered by doctors to cancel all her concerts and personal appearances until May 2011 after she spent a week in hospital for a “serious illness”, which has since been confirmed as incurable pancreatic cancer.

The National Enquirer says the prognosis for the Say a Little Prayer singer, 68, is poor, with the survival rate at 5%-10%. Her age and being overweight lower her chances of recovery further.

In December, however, the 68 year old  — who also broke two ribs in a fall last summer — underwent surgery and she told fans that the procedure was “highly successful”.

Things certainly seem to be looking up for the star: according to Showbiz, Aretha is next planning to soak up some rays and relax on holiday  at a “fabulous beach”.

Aretha Franklin is feeling great

Aretha Franklin has talked about her recovery in her first interview since reportedly being diagnosed with cancer and the subsequent cancellation of her concerts. The main point she wanted to make was to her fans, to let them know that she feels great again.
The Queen of Soul, who underwent surgery on December 2nd, 2010 spoke to JET Magazine so that she could let everyone know she is “feeling great and coming along.”

The true nature of her illness remains a mystery, but after she suddenly cancelled all her shows up until May 2011, many sources claimed she had pancreatic cancer. The legendary soul singer and her representatives have however repeatedly side-stepped questions regarding that issue. In response to questions from the media she replied, “I don’t have to talk about my health with anybody other than my doctors. The problem has been resolved.”

One fact remains which is the sharp pain she felt in her side while touring in Canada, after which she immediately called a doctor. She thought the pain was related to a colonoscopy she had recently had but the doctor dismissed that idea and warned her to take further investigative measures.

He said, ‘Miss Franklin, whatever it is it is not from the colonoscopy. You need to come home and have a CAT-scan.”

She followed the doctor’s advice and did just that.

The scan revealed whatever was ailing Ms. Franklin and since starting her recovery she wishes to publicly thank her fans and friends for their support, well wishes and prayers, although she wishes to continue her recovery in privacy.

She told her interviewer of her r-e-s-p-e-c-t for her followers by saying, “I know my fans are great. Let them know I am feeling great and coming along.”

Aretha Franklin as alive, contrary to internet rumors

Rumors of Aretha Franklin’s death have taken Twitter by storm and stories that the singing legend is no more have been spreading on the Internet like wildfire.

Earlier this month the singer underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness and shortly afterwards news that she was suffering from incurable pancreatic cancer started making the headlines.

A source close to Aretha, however, told the Free Press that she is “home, alive and recovering.”

Indeed, just less than two weeks ago we reported that she was in “high spirits” after her “highly successful surgery”, with plans to “see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before January 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the FOX before it closes.”

Yesterday there were legitimate reports that singer Teena Marie, fondly referred to as the “Ivory Queen of Soul”, died aged 54 – perhaps that was what led to the confusion?

Other stars who have recently fallen prey to similar Twitter death rumors include Morgan Freeman, Charlie Sheen and Bill Cosby.

Aretha Franklin ‘in great spirits’ as she is released from hospital

Soul singer Aretha Franklin has been released from hospital after undergoing “highly successful” surgery for an undisclosed illness.

The 68 year old, who had surgery on 2 December, said in a statement: “I’ve been at home for almost three days now.”

“My family and friends who brought me home are aking freat care of me. I also have a private nurse who visits me on a daily basis.

Unconfirmed reports state that she is suffering from pancreatic cancer, which is extremely aggressive with only a 5% – 10% survival rate.

But despite the poor prognosis, the star of hits such as Respect and Think is, according to a representative, “in great spirits and very happy to be home where she will be resting in anticipation of spending the upcoming holiday season with her family.”

And Aretha has no intention of spending all her time behind closed doors. “I’m hoping to be strong enough to go out and see the upcoming Sam Cooke play at the Music Hall in downtown Detroit before January 2, as well as a performance of Dreamgirls at the FOX before it closes,” she said.
